Childish Gambino & Danny Brown At The Palladium Ballroom In Dallas

The concert was in one phrase: Fucking Bananas…and no don’t ‘excuse my French’. It started off with my brother and I arriving late, after I told him that Childish Gambino’s fan-base is ridiculous and so underrated, so we need not be late. We get to the venue and the line was wrapped around the building; it was a sold out concert! We get inside and we had to “excuse me” our way through because I can deal with not being in the front row, but I’m surely not going to be in the back. My brother got complacent with being in the middle but I didn’t because you couldn’t see a thing. People just kept their hands up the whole time blocking the view of the stage. So, I maneuvered my way to the side of the stage. Danny Brown was the opening act. I’ve heard of him but I just never really gave him the time of the day. At the concert I had no choice and I ended up liking him. His image is horrid…that hair is atrocious; but his lyrics, rap delivery, and fused styled beats make him a winner in my book. He’s a very different rapper to have come out of Detroit. I appreciate how he was trying to make the crowd take a step back to relieve the people in the front row from being crushed, but no one moved. Lol. Great effort though. Childish Gambino (or some know him as Donald Glover) came on stage and the crowd went crazy. These girls were behind me screaming in my ear. It felt like someone was trying to sharpen a pencil with my eardrum. My ears have never heard that high of a screeching pitch. I could have sworn I wasn’t at a Mindless Behavior concert. The concert was too live! Even though he’s a rapper, with the live band it kind of gave it a rock feel. Also, Gambino’s fan-base is so diverse, which I love, so you get all types of dances and vibes. I danced sooooo much! One point you’d catch me two-stepping and bouncing to the music, the next you’d catch me jumping up and down rocking out. I danced to the point that I got a cramp in my stomach. It was telling me to slow down like I was working out or something. I need to get back in shape! Lol. I was trying to record one of my favs Freaks and Geeks, but it was so live to the point that I cut the camera off after the 1st verse because I got too into it. I felt like I was back in my bathroom doing my morning routine with the speakers cranked to the max. Pure awesomeness. He’s not really known for singing and rapping like Drake is, but he does do both. I respect how Gambino sounds like he does on the record; that’s always a good thing in my book. Letter Home was a solid performance. I can’t forget about how bad ass the band was. I have a love for strings and the violins were on point! But let’s get to the concert’s craziness. Half of my recordings are only snippets because of ignorant things that were transpiring during the concert. During All The Shine it was a group of girls that came up behind me from out of nowhere trying to ‘Mosh’. I asked her what the hell was she doing because obviously it wasn’t any more room. She said she was moshing. I look at her like this isn’t Ozzfest, so get your ass to the back. Lol. She thought I was playing and kept pushing forward. I then had to block her path way and push her back along with her friends. The people in front of me were so relieved.  During L.E.S. people started to crowd surf. I’ve seen crowd surfing in person before, but this time I was in an area were the crowd surfing began, and it is not a pretty sight trying to get those people up in the air. It was so bad that the girl next to me got hit in the face by the person’s shoe. Crowd surfing kept getting started in my area; about 5 people participated. The first and second person that tried it, we let them make it. The third, fourth, and fifth person wasn’t so lucky. They would crowd surf and then when they got to a particular area, people in the crowd would push them down to the ground. Hilarious shit! Lmao! I had stopped recording for a while now, but I did want to get this freestyle that Gambino was rapping…yeah that wasn’t possible. A fight broke out behind me. Two preppy looking boys that we’re just too crunk and  under the influence of some sort decided to have a brawl. It was funny to see this huge tall guy trying to help stop it. It was just a lot going on. Saturday Night + Young Mixed Crowd = Insaneness. But the concert was a great, fun, and entertaining experience. Overall Childish Gambino gave a great performance…broke foot and all.
