College Kids…Tsk Tsk…They’re So Smart That They’re Stupid

I decided that at our next AMA (American Marketing Association) fundraising event, for the spring theme we should have Easter eggs collectively. That means that we should have an Easter egg hunt within the business college. The eggs were filled with candy and a tab of paper that was meant to lead the students to the AMA bake sale. I sat and observed, which is what marketers do to see what works and what doesn’t, and I was amazed! Since it was April 1st, I’m hoping that they were thinking it’s an April’s Fool joke. With that in mind, one of the members made signs to post around the business school informing them of the Easter egg hunt, just in case they didn’t read the sign. We decided to dumb it down so much…that we just sat the eggs in the sitting area on the chairs. People literally moved the egg over to the next seat or walked around the egg to find another seat. This had me thinking, have they been structurally taught that if something’s not theirs then don’t touch it. I mean, it clearly had no one’s name on the egg and I clearly saw people pick them up, shake them, and put them back down. Then I started to think, maybe it they feel they are too grown. That thought went out the window when I saw the janitor find one and tell us that he gets the idea and he likes it. That incident led me to my conclusion, COLLEGE KIDS ARE SO SMART THAT THEY ARE STUPID! College kids over think and set boundaries on everything, especially the colleges that include logical thinking. I bet if we did this in the fine arts building, they would absolutely get the concept and play along. I just laughed in my head thinking that if we would have done that in the science school, they would have been trying to test it and make chemicals or something idiotic. But it baffles me that a janitor, which I’m pretty sure didn’t have any college experience, could grasp the concept and smile at the memory of doing this as a child, while the “smart” kids couldn’t. The purpose of me thinking of the event is to let people know that they aren’t too grown to have the same fun that they used to have as children.

P.S. I still do an Easter egg hunt with my siblings every year but instead of candy, I decided to fill each egg with a donut hole. We love donut holes, which is food, and of course we love food! Hehehe 🙂
