Music and Songwriting: Everything Will Happen His Way, In His Timing

It was now the end of September; same thing, different day. At this point, there was nothing left to do. I didn’t want to start marketing/promotions until after Apollo’s Interlude ♫Any Which Way♫ album was released. Most people forget unknown artist’s release dates, so I just figured when they asked or I talked to someone about the album, I could tell them that it was out now. October 15th came and it was a sigh of relief. The album was finally out! I could have sworn I told myself I didn’t want to sing anymore; that being a singer was so dead to me. Welp! I knew that it was now time to get into the nitty-gritty of letting the public know. Boy did I learn. Being the artist and the label…you get to see and learn more than you every expected. Nothing is free! I mean nothing! Record labels just usually have all these departments that handle certain things for the artist. No one just puts your song on the radio, no one just promotes your music, writes press releases, puts you on the line-up for gigs, puts your video on their station, etc. Everything you do cost money, then you get to build those relationships to where they may give you a discount, or if you give them a gift or wine-n-dine them, then they may give you their services for free. So at the end of the day, you are paying for radio play, you are paying to perform as an opener. New artist get no love and that’s why labels put so much money into the first release, so if the public likes them, their second release will either be a breeze, or they won’t have a second release, meaning they get dropped. And the crazy thing about people is they won’t like your stuff until that one blog likes it, or until their friends like it…since we live in the day and age where hardly anyone can think for themselves. Oh well, this will just be something that I would have to deal with; I didn’t care.
