There Are Those Who “Care” Or Those Who “Get It”…You Hardily Find Both

Jim Mourey

This is about some words that hit me, that came out of Jim Mourey’s mouth. He has too much for me to write about his resume so how about you just google him.lol.But he came to speak to my Genb 2301 class and it was interesting. He talked about how it’s not about “who you know”;it’s “who you really know”!He pointed out on a Venn diagram with each side stating the people who care about what you’re trying to do, and the people who get what you’re trying to do.Those people are no good! The good people are the ones that over-lap in the middle of the Venn diagram as both! Then he said write the person’s name down who cares and who gets it.I had no one to write down.I blame it on Dallas,TX.I’ve networked with almost everyone in Dallas and no one is in the over-lapping part of my Venn diagram.I’m not sulking, it’s the truth. You can ask anyone in the music industry in Dallas and they will tell you that people don’t work together.People out of Dallas don’t support each other, they just do their own thing.I know it’s true because I have contacts from different parts of the U.S. and I feel that even if I have never called them, they will be more helpful than the people in Dallas. That’s why I’m not returning because it’s a waste of time because there is no unity.Like my daddy said, “People in Dallas like to take their time, gotta ask their pastor, then have to pray about, then have to sit and think on it before anything ever gets done.”People in Dallas like to build a clique and stay within it.Most of the cliques waste time because they fall apart or have loss their sense of direction.Nothing is stable in Dallas. The people that make it, let me rephrase that, the people that REALLY make it from Dallas have to leave Dallas in order to do so.Business cards are a waste of time there because progress is no such word in that vicinity.I going to build relationships with people who care and get it because I care and get what they are trying to do, but that has to be both ways.In the words of DJ ASAP, “What Can You Do For Me!”
