THE INTRODUCTION OF 17 BARS (@17BarsMusic)

17 Bars is a new emerging group out of Cedar Hill, TX. Drew Gilbert, Michael Morrison, Ahmed Arasah, and Bryan Laurel are the four talented 18 and under youngsters that come with mature talent to grace the Dallas, TX scene. They have their own style…not just your regular New Boyz or B5 type group; way more talented than that. Seeing that they met in high school, all being a part of the drumline; they come with musical talent. Ahmed is the MC, Michael is the DJ and MC, Bryan is on keyboard and guitar, and Drew is on drums and he produces. I haven’t seen a group this young be able to pull the musical stunts that they have. They also have their heads on right, with the drive to make it. 17 Bars didn’t have the necessities they needed to record so what did they turn too in order to come up with the money? No, not drugs, they turned to selling snacks at school to raise money. These young men are determined to reach their goal the right way showing that they can be role models in the industry as well. 17 Bars also has songs that are age appropriate and young people around their age can relate to. “I Got Yo Girlfriend” has a catchy “Boom I got yo girlfriend/I got yo girlfriend” chorus that talks about taking someone’s girlfriend. Then they get versatile with “Sun Is in the Sky” including a Lily Allen sample, which is a song about them pondering on life and just asking questions that any teenager would think about. “Fresher than a Ziploc” has the potential of radio play as they fill your ear with a catchy chorus “We fresh/We dope”; and you can’t help but to pay attention to the drums that are being rocked out by Drew. “Crush on You (Remix)” has internet potential seeing that it has the classic Lil’ Kim instrumental behind it. Besides, it’s my favorite song on the mixtape and it’s one of my ringtones. With lyrics from Ahmed like “17 bars unsigned to any label/Let me hold you down like a princess and a fable/Don’t let me get big before you pay me some attention/Write your name 100 times in detention” and “I hope me and you are like time/Endless/An it’s all good/No bad intentions/Check my facebook/You’re number one on my friends list” rapped by Michael, you can’t help but you go back to your high school days and reminiscence about the crushes you had. 17 Bars have music that can take you back to a place, that can make you think, that can make you dance, and that you can overall just jam to without all the nonsense that is being played on the radio now. These guys are going places so remember that I told you here first. And do yourself a favor and download their first mixtape “17th Street” by 17 Bars…you won’t be sorry.
