Let’s Progress Not Regress

I attended a Career Fair at my school just to be nosey and look around because I knew there was going to be no hope for a person like me. The jobs there are paying $7.50 an hour. Of course it’s part time because students attend school. I got to calculating working an average of four shifts an it turned up to be useless! I’m losing time where I could be improving my grades or handling up on business, for useless work. People say it’s better to have some money than none. This is where people don’t progress. It’s better to have time to tend to your craft, then to waste it on a weekly check that can be spend all on one pair of shoes, or getting some groceries. You will definitely not be able to pay any bills off that…maybe just a cell phone bill. I’ve made $125 a day working on movie sets in L.A. I don’t like the feeling of regressing. I did that when I moved back to Dallas when I worked at Razzoos as a hostess making $8.50-$10 an hour depending on tip share. That was even in high school so how could I make less in college with a greater school workload. I also looked around and realized that this is the day-to-day struggle for most people in life. You began to realize the importance of education and it gives you the drive to do more. I be damn if I make $7.50 an hour in college. I have higher standards. I understand that some people have to do what they have to do; but I was blessed with a father to send me money every week so I can take 18 credit hours every semester and not work. But I also see people regress with degrees. My older sister has her degree and is at the same job she has been at before she received her degree. She just took on a part time job, my old job as being a hostess. If she only would out that degree to work, she would make more than her full-time job and her part-time job put together. I understand people hit hard times, but some regress is just unnecessary. You should be getting closer to your dreams…not farther! Just listen to Goapele’s “Closer” 😀
