Why Are All My Memories Surrounded By Food?

Why Are All My Memories Surrounded By Food?

I was talking to my older sister today about when children start remembering things. I purposed it’s around 3 years old because I can vividly remember things, moments, and memories from that age. I started off by telling her of the times I had in gymnastics class when I was 3 and then we would have snacks. I recalled the times me and my little brother would love to eat Flintstone Vitamins and our favorite drink was milk mixed with Hershey’s strawberry syrup when I was 5. When I was 4 I told her about the Easter basket that our neighbors gave to me when my family had moved from Dallas to Houston for a little while. When I was about 7 my tooth came out eating on a Jimmy Dean sausage. And my mom and I used to make cheesecakes all the time at that age. I’m confused on why food is associated with a lot of my memories. Even memories until this day are associated with food. I was fat as a child (age 7-12) but that shouldn’t play a factor of why at age 19 my memories are still associated with food. I even associate me visiting the Eiffel Tower with the cheesecake and piña colada I had at the restaurant Le 58 Tour Eiffel. Oh, I can’t forget about how the best crepe place is located along the Champs-Elysées as soon as you get off at the Champs-Elysées-Clemenceau Métro stop. My favorite food is fries so of course I can recollect how the best French fries I ever tasted were at the Cancún resort in Las Vegas. There is also that fond high school memory of saving my lunch money and waiting until after school to go eat at Lucky Boy when I was attending school in Pasadena, California. Even stories I tell about London are associated with how food quality in Europe is way better than in America. Did America make me this way; are Americans truly ‘fat asses’. I’m afraid I’ll forever be fat at heart regardless of if I do or don’t gain the weight back; it’s too late to turn back. #TeamILoveFood
